‘Systems error’ leaves 110 city passengers stranded at Udaipur airport

Mumbai: A systems error in the Indian Airlines booking procedure left 110 passengers stranded at Udaipur airport on Monday. The passengers of IA’s Udaipur-Mumbai flight IC-7471 scheduled to depart at 2.30 pm were barred from boarding the flight because, the airline staff said, their tickets — booked a month in advance — were actually confirmed due to a systems error!
It was only after irate passengers came to blows with the staff that the airline officials offered road transport up to Ahmedabad airport from where the passengers were told to catch a flight to Mumbai. It takes four hours to reach Ahmedabad from Udaipur by road.
Angered at the airline’s casual attitude to the error and inconvenience caused to passengers, a quarrel broke out between the passengers and the airline officials.
