Deccan copter crashes; pilots unhurt

Bangalore: A Deccan Aviation helicopter force-landed on the Jakkur lake bed, a kilometre from the aerodrome, at 5 pm on Monday.
Pilots, Captain V S Rawal and Captain R Menon, baled out unhurt. The copter was on a routine training flight. Jayanth Pooviah, director of Deccan Aviation Helicopter Division, said the copter experienced loss of power as it was approaching the aerodrome on its final sortie.
The aircraft landed hard with the descent being quicker than usual. Owing to the heavy landing, the skids of the helicopter were damaged.
The tail boom was also damaged as it hit a bund while landing. The helicopter is a Bell 407 aircraft and is relatively new.
