AI green signal for Chandigarh airport modernisation

Chandigarh: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved asum of Rs 80 crore to build an airport of international standard in Chandigarh. It is to be one of the best the North India and the time frame — only two years.
A high level AAI delegation, headed by General Manager (Planning), P Joshi, held a series of meetings with the senior UT Administration officers in this regard recently.
The new building will be constructed in the parking area of the present building. Work on the project will start in a few months, senior officials confirmed. But there are some roadblocks as well. Additional land needs to be acquired from the Army and the Airforce for the project.
According to the sources, the new building will have all the modern facilities of an international-level airport — including a centrally air conditioned lounge with a capacity to accomodate 500 people.
