Agartala: A new private airlines connecting air fields in the North East will be launched by NRI business group 'Universal Empire' by October, official sources said here today.
Group chairman K Balchandran Nair said the new service 'Surya Airlines' would fly 19-seater aircraft, which would connect almost all the small airfields in the region with technical collaboration of 'Buddha Airlines' of Nepal.
Approval for the new airlines has already been obtained from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India and the final approval of the Ministry of Aviation is being awaited, he said.
The group also has plans for connecting the NE region with the other South Asian countries because of its contiguity.
