LCCs are taking over the world

The Low Cost Carrier (LCC) phenomenon has taken over Asia. The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) notes that the latest data from the Official Airline Guide (OAG) has shown that one in ten flights in Asia are now by LCCs.
OAG calculates that LCCs represent 14% of all services worldwide, which is up from 13% in its July 2006 review of global airline capacity.
LCC capacity seats are set to rise 63% in September 2006, year on year, and LCCs will account for 10% of total services in the region, up from 6% in the same period last year.
On the worldwide scale, the LCCs are making a significant dent in the market. The percentage of seats on sale worldwide on LCCs is 17% - European LCC’s have caught up to their US counterparts with an 18% share of total services.
