Bangalore airport will be third largest soon

By the end of 11th Five Year Plan (2011-12), Bangalore's airport will emerge as India's third biggest airport after Mumbai and Delhi, D.P. Singh, General Manager (Department of Corporate Planning and Management Services), Airports Authority of India (AAI), Delhi, said here on Friday.
He told that AAI was planning to use the existing airport at Bangalore as workshop for aircraft maintenance once the new (international airport) airport was commissioned.
Mr. Singh, along with N. K. Puri, Executive Director (Department of Corporate Planning and Management Services), AAI, Delhi, was here to assess the potential of air traffic passengers, especially in Mangalore, Kasaragod and Kannur regions.
He said the international traffic of this region (Mangalore, Kasaragod and Kannur) grew at the rate of 20 per cent in 2005-06. Mr. Singh said there was potential for the growth of air passenger traffic in Mangalore, Kasaragod and Kannur regions.
