Doha-bound passenger dozes off, returns by same flight

Thiruvananthapuram: A Keralite travelling to Doha to take up a new job returned on the same flight because he dozed off when the plane landed there.
Shiju K D, 28, an automobile mechanic who was flying for the first time, boarded Air-India’s Kochi-Manama-Doha flight on Wednesday.
"Because of heavy work prior to travelling, I could not sleep properly for three to four days. So I slept off immediately after boarding the plane and didn’t know when the flight landed in Manama," Shiju said.
When he woke up and got ready to disembark, he was told that the flight had already left Doha with the return passengers.
Realising their grave error the airline crew initially tried to pacify the man and hush up the case. But he threatened a sit-in on the aircraft demanding a fresh ticket to Doha.
"Initially they threatened me saying I would have to pay the return fare too for not alighting at the Doha airport. When I refused to budge, they promised to talk to the head office and arrange a ticket on another date," Shiju said.
With no assurance coming from India’s flag carrier, he had to buy another ticket with the help of friends again on Qatar Airways and he would be flying to Doha tomorrow morning.
