Would do what needed in the company's business interests: Mallya

Kingfisher Airlines chairman Vijay Mallya has reacted to criticism of the congestion surcharge levied by Kingfisher, Jet and Air Sahara, saying that congestion cess is important to keep a company’s financials intact.
Vijay Mallya, Chairman of the kingfisher airlines today said an airline operator would do what was needed in the business interests of the company.
“All the newspapers are full of reports and the minister for civil aviation said that he is not happy about the congestion surcharge. That’s fine, but as an operator I am responsible for my financials and for my shareholders, In fact it's a Rs 150 increase that the passengers have to bear. The minister has said that if it was a fare increase, he wouldn't mind at all but because I called it a surcharge, he takes offence. I wonder what difference it makes because the passenger winds up paying it in either case,” said Mallya.
