Bhutan builds model aircraft for fire drills with Indian help

The Civil Aviation Department will soon build a model plane, which when ready will not take off for the blue skies but will be used for fire fighting drills.
To weigh 20 tonnes and with a capacity of 15 passengers, the 18.5 metres long, 2 metres high model plane will essentially give fire fighters a real life situation drill say civil aviation officials.
Fire officer Jigme Rinchen said that there were many fire fighting drills such as wet drill, dry drill, stimulator drill, for which fighters were sent elsewhere for training. But getting professional trainers to Bhutan was too expensive.
Proprietor of 2Q Engineering Works, Nidup, who was awarded the work told Kuensel that around Nu.700,000 worth of materials were imported from India and work will commence by mid January. “ Since it a new thing for me, five workers from India with the permit from Civil Aviation are being brought in,” he said.
