Air travel gets costlier

Nagpur: Domestic airlines operating flights, especially to Mumbai and Delhi, from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport have hiked air fares for the fourth time following an increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.
The fares on domestic sectors by air carriers Air India, Jet and Kingfisher-Deccan have been hiked again, the fourth such move since June 3.
Jet Airways had on June 3 raised the minimum fares on Mumbai route to Rs 3,475 and Rs 5,100 on the Delhi sector. However, the air fares were again increased from June 20, with Jet Airways charging Rs 3,625 for Mumbai and Rs 5,525 on the Delhi sector and on July 17 fares were further hiked to Rs 3,725 for Mumbai and Rs 5,725 for Delhi route. After the hike effected on August 1, minimum fares on Mumbai route will now be Rs 3,825 and Delhi flight will now cost Rs 5,950. Jet Airways has also decided to resume evening flights to Mumbai from Nagpur from August 10.
Air India did not hike any fares on July 17. However, in the latest move it hiked fares to Rs 3,825 for Mumbai and Rs 5,800 for Delhi route.
The Indigo and Deccan Airways, no longer keen to maintain their low-cost carrier (LCC) tag, have marginally increased airfares for various destinations.
After the hike, Indigo will charge minimum airfare of Rs 3,175 for Mumbai, Rs 3,574 for Pune, Rs 4,825 for Delhi and Bangalore. While, Kingfisher will charge Rs 4,375 for Indore and Rs 4,460 for Hyderabad; while Deccan will charge Rs 3,150 for Mumbai.
