AI moots free trip home for Indians freed from jails

Kochi:  Minister of state for civil aviation K C Venugopal said Air India has mooted a proposal to bring back Indians freed from various foreign jails free of cost. Venugopal told TOI on the sidelines of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here on Tuesday that he had taken up the matter with external affairs minister Salman Kurshid. "We already have a proposal to bring them back by charging a nominal amount. We are considering upgrading it and the external affairs minister had promised to get back on the matter," he said.
The minister said the matter would be speeded up once the civil aviation ministry got the nod from the external affairs ministry. He said a proposal from NGOs in various countries about bringing back Indians freed from jails was also under consideration.
