Air cargo piles up due to workers' strike

Chennai: A strike by loaders and supervisors at the Chennai air cargo hub has brought cargo operations to a near standstill. More than 300 tonnes of export cargo have piled up at the airport, some next to the runway tarmac. The cargo includes perishable goods and consignments belonging to telecom and automobile companies.
Workers of Bhadra, the ground handling company, are went on an indefinite strike from Wednesday demanding wage revision and basic amenities including medical and canteen facilities. Senior airport officials confirmed that export cargo operations had to be stopped due to lack of space for unloading and segregation.
