Air India world's 3rd least safe airline: Survey

Mumbai: Air India has been rated the world's third-most unsafe commercial airline by a German airline safety think-tank in a ranking that was debunked by the national carrier.
Among the 60 carriers featured in the listing released last week, Helsinki-based Finnair was graded the safest and China Airlines the least safe. India's Jet Airways was at 37th spot and Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific figured third from top. To arrive at the rankings, Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Center (JACDEC) said it culled data on air crashes and fatalities in the last 30 years and factored in international safety benchmarks.
The statistics show AI was not among the worst on the parameters of fatalities or "hull losses" (aircraft written off after an accident).
