LGBI Airport accused of ignoring Assamese language

Guwahati: Urging the authorities concerned to ensure public announcements in Assamese together with Hindi and English at the LGBI Airport, public activist Prof Deven Dutta today said that Assam was probably the only State in which the State language was shown such disrespect.
“In every airport, public announcements regarding arrival and departure of flights and related matters are made in the local language besides Hindi and English. For reasons best known to the authorities concerned, the LGBI Airport chooses to be a deplorable exception,” Prof Dutta said at a press conference. He added that the announcements made in English in the LGBI Airport left a lot to be desired in terms of correctness and elegance of the language, making the uttering difficult to comprehend for the people.
Prof Dutta also accused the State Government and public representatives such as MLAs and MPs of the State of looking the other way to such a cavalier attitude of the airport authorities, and demanded that announcement in Assamese be made mandatory at the earliest.
