Airport watchdog gives Zone VIII DCP an earful for 'meddling'

Mumbai: The zonal deputy commissioner of police (DCP) asking aviation-related companies located near the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) to take serious note of safety issues has not gone down well with the airport safety regulator.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has written a strongly-worded letter to the DCP of zone VIII, Namdev Chavan, asking him not to meddle in their work, as handling the safety issues of the airport is their responsibility.
Chavan, however, claims that the letters that his office keeps sending aviation companies if they spot any security issues receive no response from the BCAS. He even seemed unaware of what the BCAS is. “I have no idea about it,” Chavan said. CSIA falls under his jurisdiction.
