Green drive for flights landing at Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: After Mumbai, Ahmedabad has become India’s second city to launch a green initiative at its international airport by experimenting the ‘continuous descent operation’ (CDO), a novel landing technique that reduces carbon emission and fuel consumption.
Pilots of flights about to touch down at Ahmedabad are now being given a pre-determined descent path well in advance so that they don’t have to halt at different heights to watch out for other aircraft movements.
In the CDO which was first implemented in Mumbai last year, the aircraft need not hover over the airport but proceeds to a ceaseless landing, reducing descent time, greatly improving fuel efficiency, improving life of aircraft and passenger comfort.
