CPM, Trinamool oppose airport privatization

Kolkata: Parties criticizing each other in the run-up to the panchayat polls are on the same page when it comes to opposing the Centre's bid to hand over Kolkata airport maintenance to private hands. Former Union minister of state and senior Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy and CPM Rajya Sabha member Tapan Sen have both written to the Centre against the move.
In a letter to Union aviation minister Ajit Singh, Roy opposed the Centre's effort to engage a private body for the maintenance of Kolkata and Chennai airports. Roy, who is also the president of the Airport Authority of India Staff and Worker's Union, has given a call for a joint forum of airport authority employees where the move towards privatization will be opposed the move towards privatisation.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Left Front-affiliated Airport Authority Employees Union have already expressed concern over the issue at a general body meeting organised by the Trinamool-led union last week.
