Ahmedabad airport registers largest drop in domestic fliers in country

Ahmedabad: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Inter-national Airport (SVP) has witnessed a roller coaster of a financial year in 2012-13. The number of international passengers traveling from Gujarat saw a jump of 9.8  percent between April 2012 and March 2013, but the number of domestic flyers dropped by a record 15.3 percent, the biggest fall in the country.
According to the Airport Authority of India’s (AAI) data, as compared to the financial year 2011-12, 2012-13 saw an increase of 73,263 international passengers at the SVP Airport, while in the domestic category, there were 6.05 lakh fewer passengers this past year. The data revealed that in the financial year 2012-13 only 33.44 lakh passengers used the SVP Airport while it was 39.50 lakh in 2011-12.
