AI takes 5 pilots off the roster for indiscipline

New Delhi: Air India has taken at least five pilots off the roster on charges of indiscipline, including allowing passengers to travel inside cockpit, Rajya Sabha was informed on Monday.
There have been three incidents in the last six months. In two cases pilots allowed a customs official and an actress to travel in the cockpit against laid-down rules, Minister of State of Civil Aviation K C Venugopal said in reply to a question.
In the third case, the pilots allowed "non-aviation conversation during operation" and using mobile phone inside the cockpit, he said.
All the cockpit crew involved have been off-rostered pending investigation by Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
In reply to a question on the impact of AI pilots' strike, he said during the first strike between April 27-May 6, 2011, the airline's market share was 12.9 per cent or 2.1 points less than what prevailed in the same period in 2010.
On the second strike from May 7-July 3, 2012, he said the market share was only 0.5 per cent less than the previous year.
