Kolkata: In an effort to attract airlines to the State, the West Bengal Government on Tuesday offered tax breaks on aviation fuel.
According to the State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, refuelling in Kolkata will henceforth attract a lower tax of 15 per cent (down from 30 per cent) and they will be exempted from paying any local tax for refuelling at smaller airports of Bagdogra and Durgapur for three years.
The Airport Authority-run Bagdogra airport caters to North Bengal including Darjeeling Hills and Sikkim.
Durgapur airport, co-promoted by Changi Airports International of Singapore, is now awaiting regulatory clearance to commence operations.
The tax holiday is also extended to an inoperative airport at Coochbehar in North Bengal to bring it to the aviation map.
