Bagdogra night flight draws blank on Day 2

Jalpaiguri/Darjeeling: A day after SpiceJet operated the first evening flight to Bagdogra, the airline cancelled the flight on Wednesday due to poor passenger load. The development caused concerns among the travel trade community as well as airport officials as they feared it could send a wrong signal to other airlines, discouraging them to consider late flights.
Though SpiceJet said the flight had been cancelled due to operational reasons with an official citing the grounding of an aircraft, sources said the lack of numbers had forced the airline to cancel the flight as it was not viable to operate a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with only a handful of passengers.
Officials from the travel trade industry, however, pointed out that new flights generally register low loads initially. "Loads pick up once passengers become aware of the new schedule and are confident that it will be a regular service," Suresh Beriwal of Clubside Tours & Travels, Darjeeling, pointed out.
