AIIMS in red states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha to have helipads for trauma patients

Raipur: : The two newly setup AIIMS hospitals in the capital cities of the red zone states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha are soon going to have helipad services, which would prove a boon to trauma patients, particularly the security personnel and the general public injured in Maoist related violence.

While the service, which is expected to take one year, would be available for ferrying trauma patients from the far flung areas of the state to this tertiary care hospital, security personnel, injured in Maoist encounters, are likely to be the most benefited, as speciality and super speciality care would be available for them. Since quality specialised medical facilities are not available in the far-flung areas of the state, patients are often sent to Raipur for treatment and valuable time is lost in travelling by roads, the facility could pave way for saving many valuable lives.

Talking to TOI, Deputy Director Administration (DDA) of AIIMS, Raipur, Niresh Sharma, said the proposal is finalised and the helipad would be constructed on the rooftop of A1 building once its construction is complete. The building is adjacent to the hospital's trauma ward.
