Air travellers form new association

Visakhapatnam: A new air travellers’ association, christened ‘Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers Association (APATA)’ has been formed by dissolving the Visakhapatnam Air Travellers’ Association (VATA) and merging air travellers associations of Vijayawada and Tirupathi.

The objective of forming the new association is integrated development of Visakhapatnam International Airport along with the proposed international airports in Vijayawada and Tirupathi by leveraging on the strengths of Visakhapatnam, the principal city in AP, newly elected president Y. Sivasagar Rao, working president Ch. Ramakotaiah and vice-president O. Naresh Kumar told a media conference here.

Mr. Ramakotaiah said that APATA would strive for improving air connectivity in the new State. The competition in the skies has resulted in cheap air fares and sometimes flight tickets were cheaper than train fares. He recalled that Air India has recently introduced the Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada-Hyderabad flight following a representation made by him to Union Minister of Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju.
