Govt revives bid to woo airlines

Puducherry: After Alliance Air withdrew flight services connecting Bengaluru last month over a subsidy dispute, the Government has revived its bid to woo airlines for operating services through the Puducherry airport.

Setting November 30 as a cut-off date, the Government has invited Expressions of Interest in Public-Private Partnership mode from airline/rotary aircraft.

It is understood that negotiations are under way with some operators, notably Air Costa and Pawan Hans. The Government expects at least a couple of more operators to submit EoIs before the November 30 deadline.

In the notification, the Government has asked operators to quantify the incentive subsidy in the EoI submissions.

“(The) Proposal should specifically indicate the quantum of incentive subsidy sought,” according to the notification.

This is in contrast to the scheme floated by the Government in October 2014.
