Air Intelligence Unit officials nab smuggler with gold worth Rs 80 lakhs

Mumbai: Smuggling has become a global issue and each day authorities at major arrival points of the country fight with them so that nothing illegal either gets in or goes out. Major airports are one of the favourite destinations where smugglers try to cash their costly item. In a latest incident, Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport caught a person with 26 gold bars weighing approx 3.031 kilograms and 18 gold bangles weighing 198 grams.

The AIU officials have mentioned that the gold bars are worth of Rs 75,10,485 and the bangles cost another Rs 4,90,622 in the international market. Though the identity of the smuggler is yet to be declared, the intelligence unit have taken the smuggler into custody and are investigating the matter.
