Centre gives nod for Nellore, Kurnool airport sites

Hyderabad: The Union civil aviation ministry has given its nod for site clearance for airports at Dagadarthi in Nellore and Orvakal in Kurnool districts. The Centre has also okayed the site clearance for the proposed international airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district.
The airports in Nellore and Kurnool districts will be 'no-frills' greenfield airports. "We have secured the site clearance. Now, we will have to get environmental and other clearances," said Ajay Jain, chairman of the Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (INCAP).
The government has invited request for tenders for the two airports. The Nellore airport will come up on 1,352 acres at a cost of Rs 224 crore. The airport in Kurnool district will be built in 1,110 acres at a cost of Rs 234 crore.
