NHRC notice to Centre over no basic service by IndiGo

Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Centre for an action-taken report (ATR) within four weeks over denial of basic services and violation of United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights committed by IndiGo airlines.

Acting on a petition filed by Bhubaneswar-based rights campaigner Subash Mohapatra, the apex human rights watchdog called the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation for action taken report within four weeks.

Mohapatra alleged, ‘Many passengers of Indigo Airline were denied basic services at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The airlines did not comply with Civil Aviation guidelines; even no complaint book was available for the aggrieved passengers.’

He added, “Passengers are entitled to breakfast if the flight is more than two hours late in the morning or lunch or dinner as the case may be. Unfortunately, the airline doesn’t provide any service though there are frequent delays for than two hours.”
