GoAir grounds pilot for flying with invalid licence

New Delhi: Low cost carrier GoAir has grounded one of its co-pilots for reportedly flying without a valid licence. The co-pilot was allegedly flying even after expiry of validity of his last pilot proficiency check (PPC). This test is required to be given every six months and pilots are not supposed to fly without a valid PPC.
"This is a matter under investigation by the airline and DGCA. As a matter of policy, GoAir will not comment till the conclusion is reached," said a GoAir spokesperson. Worryingly in most recent cases of pilots flying without valid PPCs, most airlines were not able to detect this lapse. Either a voluntary declaration by pilots, like the GoAir case, or surprise checks by DGCA have led to detection of this lapse in past few years.
