Bombay HC disposes of PIL on ‘overworked’ Air India crew

Mumbai: The HC Wednesday disposed of a PIL filed against Air India (AI) for allegedly overworking its pilots and crew.
The PIL, filed by Mumbai resident Atul Vora, wanted the HC to ask the Director-General of Civil Aviation to verify whether mandatory work and rest hours were followed by the national carrier and to ensure safety of passengers, crew and craft.
The court disposed of the petition in view of the affidavit filed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which stated there was no merit to its claims, based largely on newspaper reports. The affidavit further stated that the petitioner had failed to establish the case as to how safety of passengers was being jeopardised.
