New Delhi: The first woman chief of aviation regulator DGCA M Sathiyavathy was today named as new Union Labour Secretary. Sathiyavathi, a 1982-batch IAS officer of the union territories cadre, was in September last year appointed as the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved her appointment as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Labour and Employment with immediate effect, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said. The officer would take over as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment on superannuation of the present incumbent Shankar Agarwal. Agarwal will retire on September 30. Senior IAS officer B S Bhullar is likely to be given additional charge of the post of DGCA, official sources said adding that the new chief of aviation regulator will be announced soon. Bhullar is presently Additional Secretary in Civil Aviation Ministry.
Sathiyavathy, who was appointed as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser to the Civil Aviation Ministry in February last year, had served as Puducherrys chief secretary before that.
