Air gun seized at Madurai airport

Madurai: In the second such incident this year, security personnel at Madurai Airport on Wednesday seized an air gun from a cargo consignment bound for Delhi. Tension prevailed at the airport terminal for some time as it was mistaken for a real pistol. It was later handed over to the Madurai Rural Police. The gun was found while the cargo was being screened minutes before it was to be loaded into a SpiceJet flight, a police officer told TOI. "The air gun belongs to Sathish from Erumbukkadu near Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district. As it was not working properly, he had sent it to the trader in Vishnu Garden in Delhi, from whom he had purchased it, to get it repaired," the officer said.
Perungudi police registered a case against Sathish under the Arms Act, 1959, based on a complaint from N Praveen Kumar, security supervisor of SpiceJet.
