AirAsia India set for expansion to go abroad

Kuala Lumpur: AirAsia India CEO Amar Abrol, who assumed his post in April after Mittu Chandilya quit, said the airline expects “multiples of million dollars” from promoters for an expansion drive, said livemint.com in a report.
The airline plans to expand its fleet and fly abroad. Tata Sons holds 51 per cent in AirAsia India while AirAsia Bhd holds the rest.
“It’s the start of our next chapter in India,” said Abrol in an interview. “We have been very categorical in stating that we get new aircraft as soon as possible.”
He added that it’s a natural fit for the airline to look towards Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. “We may fly to other destinations as well. AirAsia India will determine where we fly.”
“We will be taking advantage of the AirAsia network.”
Abrol thinks that he has joined the company at the most opportune time. “We have in India, for the first time, a civil aviation policy,” he continued.
