Bomb scare at Ranchi airport

Ranchi: An unclaimed bag in the parking zone of Birsa Munda airport created panic among fliers and state police on Saturday morning. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials informed the district police who evacuated the parking area before cordoning it.
City SP Kaushal Kishore said a bomb detection and disposal squad of the Jharkhand Jaguar arrived on time and found that the bag contained some pieces of iron. "It seems to be the work of a mischief monger because the bag does not seem to belong to a flyer," said the city SP. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) team conducted a preliminary reconnaissance of the situation and helped the bomb disposal team in its operations.
The airport security was already on alert because of Independence Day celebrations and disturbances in Kashmir.
The cordoned area attracted many onlookers who were interested to see the rescue operation. Many visitors idling around the visitors' lounge came outside to see what was going on. The people waiting outside the airport terminal building gave a hard time to the police who tried to control the crowd.
