State seeks A-320 simulator training facility

Bengaluru: Anticipating a surge in the demand for A-320 aircraft, the Karnataka government urged the Centre to set up an A-320 simulator training facility at HAL airport, Bengaluru or the non-operational Mandakalli airport in Mysuru.
A representation was submitted to Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju by the state's higher education minister Basavaraj Rayareddi last week, a copy of which has been accessed by TOI. The facility will not only help meet the demand for trained pilots in the fast-growing aviation market but also boost Karnataka's image as a niche-training destination.
Currently, there are around 200 A-320 aircraft being operated by airlines in India. Aviation experts say the number will spike as India's annual traffic growth is already above the world average of 4.6% and 1,600 passenger aircraft will be added in the next 20 years.
