Chennai also hit by Air India's frequent fliers loyalty scheme scam

Chennai: The national carrier, Air India, has registered 12 vigilance cases so far this year, including misuse of Air India’s frequent fliers loyalty programme by touts. And Chennai too has its share with some cases relating to loyalty points earned by genuine fliers diverted with the help of airline employees, sources said.

“Currently, an FIR has been filed and investigation is on. The gang, which could also involve airport officials, generated email IDs and diverted reward points of passengers,” an airport official told Express.
The scam was unearthed during verification of know-your-customers document uploaded by a passenger who purchased the ticket under frequent fliers programme. His identity proof was not legitimate but the account was approved.
