Chorus grows online to name new airport after Sayajirao III

Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the swanky Vadodara international airport, an online petition to name the airport after Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III has gone viral.
The petition put on a website reasons that many airports are named after visionary leaders like Indira Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Shivaji Maharaj.
'Vadodara appeals PMO India, Narendra Modi and the civil aviation ministry, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju to name the newly built international airport after Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad, our visionary king who has done remarkable work,' the petition states. A large number of Barodians have supported and signed the petition.
Royal scion Samarjitsinh Gaekwad, son of Sayajirao's great grandson, has also supported the demand.
