Teams from Pune to study Amravati and Kochi models

Pune:  The Pune district administration has contacted the Kerala government to study the Kochi airport model and rehabilitation package.
Speaking to TOI on Wednesday, collector Saurabh Rao said that in a bid to give more than one option to landowners at Purandar, a six-member team would first visit Amravati.
Once the report comes in, a team of eight members, including Rao and other senior bureaucrats, would go to Kochi around October 20 and meet V J Kurian, the additional chief secretary in the Kerala government.
"We have been in touch with him (Kurian) for sometime. He had played an important part in setting up of the Kochi International Airport, which also included a rehabilitation package plan, in 1992. However, before this happens, another team, consisting of three members of the MADC (Maharashtra Airport Company Development Limited) and three from the district administration will be going to Amravati to study the model which had been used by them for setting up of the airport and providing fair compensation package to the farmers. The team will visit Amravati for three days from Monday," Rao said. Landowners at the villages of Purandar have been vehemently opposing the airport project and have said that under no circumstances would land be given to the government.
