Baggage lapses in Vizag airport, three cases booked

Vijayawada: The legal metrology department has registered three cases at Visakhapatnam airport for errors in the weighing scale of check-in baggage and overcharging of commodities in the retail shops. The officials also booked a case at Gangavaram port for deviation in weighing scale.
Assistant controller (enforcement) KVA Raj Kumar on Saturday said the airport was raided following the directions of state controller of legal metrology department A Sundar Kumar Das.
"Errors were found in two weighing scales. While one scale showed a deviation of 700 gram, the other had 900 gram when a 30 kg luggage was weighed. We booked cases," he said and added that they had also booked a case at Gangavaram port for deviation in measurement of imported urea.
Further, the legal metrology officials booked a case against a retail outlet which has been selling commodities above the maximum retail price (MRP). "The outlet used duplicate MRP stickers with higher prices to mask the original MRP. No outlet is supposed to sell commodities above MRP even in airports," Rajkumar said.
