Govt keen on making AI as preferred airlines

New Delhi: Government is planning to make Air India as most preferred airlines in India for which it has also undertaken several steps, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha stated in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.

The Government has routed rationalization of erstwhile AI & IA route and elimination of route network involving parallel operations. It has also rationalized certain loss making routes besides phasing out of old fleet and consequential reduction in maintenance cost.

The Government has also joined hands with Star Alliance along with the enhanced utilization of new fleet resulting in production of higher Available Seat Kilometers (ASKMs), Bureaucracy Today has learnt.

It has also closed down its overseas offline offices at certain locations and has introduced PSS (Passenger Service System) to have single code and SAP ERP based solutions throughout the organization in terms of increase in revenue and decrease in cost.

The Ministry has also upgraded its IT infrastructure with implementation of Quick Win IT solution.
These steps have enabled Air India Ltd to earn, an operating profit of Rs 105.00 crore in 2015-16 as compared to the operating loss of Rs 2636.18 crore in the previous year, said the Sinha.
