Tourists enjoy sight of Hampi from the sky

Hubballi: That Hampi is a treasure trove of historical lore is a point that doesn't need belabouring. Every corner of this ancient site is teeming with a past that is revivified every time a tourist peers closely at the ruined relics, its halcyon past assuming a new shape in the imagination. Its broad sweep, dotted by tall towers, walls stretching into the distance - Hampi is a reminder of the limitless scope of man's creativity. To behold the entire city from a higher vantage point and to gaze at the historic metropolis's many wonders from the sky would truly make for an unforgettable experience, and this is precisely what the tourism department has endeavoured to achieve with its 'Hampi by Sky' initiative.
The initiative, aimed at increasing tourist interest in the site, was launched on Sunday afternoon. A makeshift helipad within the premises of The Mayur Bhuvaneshwari Hotel is being used for the purpose. The project turned out to be a success, with over 150 tourists enjoying an aerial view of Hampi within a few hours of its launch. The project has been started as a part of the Hampi Utsava celebrations, which begin on Thursday. The curtains will come down on the Hampi by Sky initiative on November 9. Tourists have lapped up the programme with much excitement, as they now have a unique opportunity to get an aerial view of Hampi.
