Two detained at airport in separate incidents

Coimbatore: Immigration officials from Coimbatore Airport detained two people, one for using a fake passport and the other for being involved in a cheating case, on Monday. Sunny Joseph, 45, a native of Malappuram in Kerala state, was travelling to Coimbatore from Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight. He had reached Coimbatore Airport at 3am on Monday.

When immigration officials took a closer look at his passport, they found that some correction had been made by him. His date of birth printed on his passport was 1967 but he had altered it to 1971. He was detained and handed over to Peelamedu police who registered a case under section 12 (1) (b) (furnishing false information with a view to obtaining passport or travel document) of the Passport Act. He was arrested by the police.
A 30-year-old woman, wanted in connection with a share market fraud case in Thrissur, Kerala, was detained by immigration officials at the airport on Monday. She was identified as S Kuriya Pillai from Thrissur. She allegedly cheated people of crores of rupees in Thrissur. The Kerala police registered a case against her. To evade arrest, she managed to escape to Dubai. Meanwhile, Kerala police issued a lookout notice to all domestic airports.
