Bengaluru airport's second runway to be ready by September 2019

Bengaluru: With Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) clocking a growth rate of 22.5 per cent annum, airport promoter --Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) -- is gearing up to upgrade the existing runway to facilitate more air traffic movements (ATMs).
According to a BIAL communication, the runway upgradation work will commence shortly and it will include building of two Rapid Exit Taxiways (RETs) to increase the runway capability. While the current runway capability is 34 ATMs per hour the two additional RETs will increase the ATMs to 44 per hour.
The upgradation of existing runway comes at a time when the work on the second runway is under progress. BIAL stated: "The second runway will be completed by September 2019. This new runway will have CAT III B ILS and will cater to all types of aircraft including A380 in all weather conditions. This will also have an associated parallel taxiway and two cross field taxiways."
