Kochi: The air intelligence unit officers have seized gold bars weighing 1386.600 grams, valued at Rs 41.25 lakh, from a passenger who arrived at Cochin International Airport from Dubai on Friday.
The passenger, a Malappuram native, attempted to hide the contraband inside a brand new amplifier after coating them with silver paint.
Though the passenger had successfully passed the X - Ray scan, he was stopped by the customs officials on suspicion. Upon detailed examination, the officials dismantled the amplifier to find 46 pieces of 'E' shaped gold bars.
