IGIA bags prestigious award for social media strategy

Delhi: Want to find a phone charging point or reschedule a flight? Have a query about the parking facility or want to report an unclaimed item? Fret not, for the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) authorities are just a tweet away. In fact this, among other traveller-friendly social media initiatives, has made the airport bag the ‘Overall Social Media Strategy Award- 2016’.
The award was presented by the representatives of CMO Asia, a global body that aims to promote the best marketing practices worldwide, and World Brand Congress in Mumbai last week.

The IGIA has also become Asia’s most interactive airport on social networking sites, leaving behind the best-regarded Changi airport in Singapore. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) claimed that the airport receives more than 1,500 queries on social media in a month, which are attended to with utmost priority, the officials said.
Commenting on the achievement, DIAL CEO IP Rao said: “Winning such a coveted award is a testimony of our efforts to make passengers’ experience at the Delhi Airport truly world class. Last year, the Delhi Airport social media assets generated almost 7.5 crore impressions through Facebook and Twitter alone. During our 10th anniversary campaign, we emerged as the most popular airport page on Facebook. Today, Delhi Airport has the second-highest fan base among airports worldwide, and a Klout Score comparable to the topmost global airports.”
