Foreign cigarettes seized

Chennai: Officers of the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) and Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) seized 700 cartons of foreign cigarettes from three passengers at the airport here on Monday night. Ayoop Khan and A. Khadar Khan from Chennai and A. Mansoor Ali of Sivaganga arrived here from Singapore by a Tiger Airways flight. They were detained as a search led to seizure of 700 cartons of foreign cigarettes worth Rs. 7 lakh. The cartons were found concealed in their checked-in luggage.

Around two kg of gold was seized from various passengers who arrived from Singapore, Malaysia and Sharjah worth Rs. 60 lakhs. Abdul Khader Jailani of Adhiramapattinam and Mohamed Sahabudeen of Nagore who reportedly collected gold from passengers who arrived from Singapore, Malaysia and Sharjah outside the arrival hall of the airport were intercepted. The gold was recovered from them.
