IAF’s Dornier catches fire after take-off, passengers escape unhurt

Campbell Bay: Passenger services of the Indian Air Force Dornier was disrupted after one of the propellers of the aircraft caught fire immediately after take-off from Car Nicobar airport on Monday. All the passengers of the aircraft including crew members escaped unhurt as the pilot managed to land the Dornier 228 safely and passengers were immediately rushed to BJR Hospital for medical attention from the airport.
According to reports, the Dornier aircraft took off from Campbell Bay airport as per schedule with passengers including one paralysis patients. The aircraft landed at Car Nicobar at around 12.30 pm for refuelling and disembarkation of passengers. But one of the engines of the aircraft caught fire soon after take-off from Car Nicobar. The Dornier aircraft was grounded at Car Nicobar airport for necessary repairs and inspection and the aircraft took off and landed safely with all the passengers at the Port Blair airport here on Tuesday.
