MEA team to visit airport soon

A committee of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is expected to visit the Visakhapatnam International Airport soon to assess the infrastructure available and look into the demand for the issue of e-visa to foreign nationals arriving at the airport.

“The committee from Delhi, which will have members from the MEA, Immigration and Customs, is expected to visit the airport in the next few weeks. A letter has also been received in this regard,” airport director Vinod Sharma, who is also a member of the committee, confirmed to The Hindu .

On a representation submitted by Tours and Travels Association of Andhra Pradesh chairman O. Naresh Kumar and its president K. Vijay Mohan, Visakhapatnam MP and BJP State president K. Haribabu had sent a proposal to the Ministry of Home and MEA in April last seeking early introduction of e-TVOA and TVOA to boost tourism in Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh.

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had assured in a written reply to the MP during the same month that she was getting the matter examined.

The e-Tourist Visa allows arrival of people from 147 countries at 16 airports in India – Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchi, and Varanasi.
