Jet Airways flight suffers nose wheel malfunction while landing, passengers safe

New Delhi: In a close shave for 65 people on board a Jet Airways ATR, the turboprop's nose wheel collapsed soon after it landed at IGI Airport from Dehradun on Wednesday afternoon. Luckily for everyone on board, the plane stopped safely after drifting to one side of the runway since the nose wheel had turned. The runway had to remain closed for over an hour till the plane was removed from it.
The incident took place at around 4:45 pm when flight 9W 2882 landed on runway 29 before suffering nose-wheel collapse. The ATR-72 (VT-JCQ) was carrying 60 passengers and five crew members. The passengers were safely deplaned.
A Jet Airways spokesperson said," Jet Airways flight 9W 2882, an ATR 72-500, from Dehradun to Delhi of April 19, 2017 experienced a nose wheel malfunction after landing, resulting in a steering problem. All 60 guests and 5 crew members have been safely deplaned."
The spokesperson added "Guests are being looked after by the airline's guest service teams and the aircraft is being towed away for maintenance. Jet Airways regrets the inconvenience caused to guests and is making alternate travel arrangements for the affected guests."
