Man held smuggling gold worth Rs 10 lakh at Mangaluru airport

A man was arrested at Mangaluru airport for trying to smuggle gold worth around Rs 10 lakh hidden in his rectum on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, officers of the Mangaluru unit of directorate of revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted Chattanchal Abdul Razak from Kasargod in Kerala as soon as he arrived at Mangaluru International Airport from Dubai on a Spice Jet flight at around 6.30 pm.

Vinayak Bhat, deputy director, DRI Mangaluru, said a thorough interrogation and examination of the passenger revealed that he had hidden four gold bars inside his rectum; they were safely removed after professional medical advice.
