New Delhi: British Airways (BA) on Saturday cancelled its flights from London to Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, following a massive IT failure at Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Consequentially, the flights to London from these three south Indian metros that were scheduled to leave on Sunday morning have also been cancelled.
"The flights from London to Delhi and Mumbai took off on Saturday. We are expecting that these flights will leave from Delhi and Mumbai for London early on Sunday morning as scheduled. However, Saturday's flights from London to Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore and the return flights were cancelled," a BA official in Delhi said.
The British carrier flies to five Indian metros - Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. While BA has double daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai to London, the other three cities have one daily flight each.
On Saturday, BA experienced major IT failure at Heathrow and Gatwick due to which it had to cancel all its flights from there. The airline reportedly suffered a global computer system outage that caused massive delays and left planes stuck on runways in London.
